Chat Chats: Two

You know it’s a bot, they know it’s a bot, but we don’t want to make it feel like a bot. Users are very aware when they are talking to a computer, but they still look for a human-like connection when having a conversation with a chatbot. Just like meeting an off-putting person, if a bot has a bad personality, users won’t continue to interact with it. A good chatbot is easy to understand, entertaining, and informative.

Ask any teacher, if students are not engaged with the information they are learning, the results will reflect. When it comes to chatbots, the bot only has a split moment to grab the user’s attention and the first step to doing that is through the personality of the bot. A big part of personality is the tone of voice being used, making this decision can set a bot up for success or failure. To determine the tone, anticipate what personality the user assumes the bot has and align it with what the bot’s role is. Once the personality is determined, name the bot something that captures the personality and will represent the bot well at first glance. With the personality complete, the bot is on its way to a successful future.
